Authorities report that a two-vehicle wreck shortly before 5:30 a.m. in Byron left three people severely injured. The March 3 incident occurred on the Byron Highway nearby Byron Hot Springs Road.
According to the report, a pickup truck collided head-on with an oncoming sedan as the pickup truck attempted to pass the vehicle traveling in front of it. When they responded to the crash, first responders used hydraulic tools to rescue two individuals who were trapped inside one of the vehicles. Once the victims were freed, an ambulance took them to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek where they were treated for critical injuries. A third victim involved was also taken to the trauma center but had to be airlifted. The report did not indicate the medical condition of the victims.
Highway officials who arrived at the scene closed the roadway in both directions for almost two hours while authorities conducted their investigation into the crash. Authorities did not report if citations or charges will be issued to the truck driver.
