2-vehicle collision in California leaves 3 hurt

Authorities report that a two-vehicle wreck shortly before 5:30 a.m. in Byron left three people severely injured. The March 3 incident occurred on the Byron Highway nearby Byron Hot Springs Road.

According to the report, a pickup truck collided head-on with an oncoming sedan as the pickup truck attempted to pass the vehicle traveling in front of it. When they responded to the crash, first responders used hydraulic tools to rescue two individuals who were trapped inside one of the vehicles. Once the victims were freed, an ambulance took them to John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek where they were treated for critical injuries. A third victim involved was also taken to the trauma center but had to be airlifted. The report did not indicate the medical condition of the victims.

Highway officials who arrived at the scene closed the roadway in both directions for almost two hours while authorities conducted their investigation into the crash. Authorities did not report if citations or charges will be issued to the truck driver.

In many instances, head-on collisions can result in catastrophic injuries. For example, a spinal cord injury, a brain injury or a head injury can lead to a permanent disability or paralysis. If a driver caused the collision because of negligent conduct such as speeding or disregarding traffic laws, that driver might be held responsible for his or her actions that caused another person involved to be significantly injured. A local attorney who handles personal injury claims might assist a person to pursue compensation for their losses. To substantiate the claim, the plaintiff’s records of medical expenses stemming from the accident, physician reports, the accident report and witness testimony may be presented in the suit. Plaintiffs who prevail in such cases usually receive a monetary award to cover their losses such as medical expenses and property damage. Sometimes, the award could include pain and suffering.
