Many killed in dive boat fire

California is a beautiful state that contains some of the nation's most precious natural environments. From the mountains of the Sierra Nevada to the desert of Death Valley, California provides its residents with practically every type of terrain that they could want. This includes water as well, because California contains many pristine lakes as well as hundreds of miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean.

Millions of people flock to California's beaches each year, and many enjoy taking boats out into the ocean to explore the vastness of the space. Below the surface of the water, scuba divers and snorkelers can find whole worlds hidden away that would not otherwise have been visible to them from the shore. Dive boats take individuals out to parts of the ocean that they may not be able to otherwise access to experience the water in a different way.

Dive boats must be properly maintained and staffed to prevent accidents, one of which recently happened off of the coast of Santa Barbara. In the early hours of the morning, a dive boat caught fire with 39 people on board. Investigators believe that nearly three dozen of the passengers and crewmembers were below deck when the accident happened. They further believe that they were asleep and unable to escape as the flames grew.

Only five survivors were found in the water after the sinking of the dive boat, and rescuers are now focused on finding bodies rather than surviving victims. Information on this tragedy is still forthcoming, and as a clear picture emerges of just want happened, the families of deceased victims may look into what they can do to pursue wrongful death claims against the responsible parties.

The loss of a loved one is a difficult event to cope with; however, surviving family members have legal recourses available to them. This civil action could help hold a negligent party accountable while also assisting with the recover of compensation for losses suffered.
