When you’re on the road in California, you could encounter an aggressive driver. This is someone who might tailgate you for no reason, come into your lane or try to pass you in an aggressive manner. There are some ways that you can protect yourself to decrease the risk of an accident.
Relax
Try to do what you can to relax. If you don’t respond to the aggressive behavior with your own aggressiveness, then you can decrease the risk of car accidents in this type of situation. You can take a few deep breaths, roll your window down to get some fresh air or listen to the radio to try to take your mind off of the other driver. The key is to try to be aware of the driver while avoiding the person at the same time as you want to let the person get up the road and out of the way as calmly as possible.
Rules of the road
Although it could be tempting to want to match the other driver’s actions, you need to pay attention to what you’re doing on the road. Maintain the speed limit, and abide by any signs that you see. If you encounter a traffic light, you need to follow what it displays instead of trying to run a red light to reach the other driver. If an accident occurs, you could file a personal injury claim against the driver.
Staying safe on the road is the responsibility of every driver. However, there are some who might feel as though they own a portion of the road and want to drive aggressively. If you maintain a level head and watch your surroundings, you can usually get through the situation without incident.
