Aggressive, distracted or impaired drivers can cause accidents on any day of the year. However, there are some days when the rate of accidents and insurance claims is higher. For instance, accident rates tend to be higher around an NFL stadium after the home team loses a game. The claim rate increases by an average of 9.4 percent compared to just 3.2 percent if the home team wins.
Two people lost their lives in a recent head-on crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Novato. The California Highway Patrol began receiving calls around midnight about a 1995 Toyota Camry station wagon traveling north in the southbound lane of the highway. As the male driver approached the crossing near Redwood Sanitary Landfill, he crashed into a 2013 Nissan Sentra occupied by another male driver and a female passenger.
Around 6:40 a.m. on Oct. 16, a 26-year-old driver reportedly struck two teenage girls, ages 17 and 16, in a crosswalk at an intersection in Bakersfield. Both girls were crossing the street near their high school, and the driver was allegedly looking in her center console at the time of the accident.
