4 tips for reducing distracted driving

Posted by Leonard Becker | May 08, 2023 | 0 Comments

Distracted driving is a dangerous behavior that can have severe consequences, including injury or death.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that distracted driving was a factor in over 3,000 fatal crashes in 2019. This article will explore four tips for reducing distracted driving and promoting safer roadways.

1. Minimize phone use

One of the most common forms of distracted driving is using a cell phone while operating a vehicle. To minimize phone use while driving, consider using hands-free options or turning your phone off altogether while on the road. If you need to use your phone, pull over to a safe location before doing so.

2. Avoid eating or drinking

Eating or drinking while driving can also be a distraction. To avoid this behavior, eat before you get on the road or stop in a safe location if you need to eat or drink something. Taking a few minutes to stop and eat can help you focus on driving and prevent a potentially hazardous situation.

3. Secure loose items

Loose items in the car can also be a distraction. Make sure to secure loose items, such as bags, electronics or even pets, before starting your journey. Loose items can roll around or fall, which can cause you to take your eyes off the road and lead to an accident.

4. Avoid multitasking while driving

Multitasking while driving, such as applying makeup, adjusting the radio or reading a map, can also be a distraction. It is essential to focus on driving and avoid any other activities while on the road. If you need to do something that takes your attention off the road, pull over to a safe location before doing so.

Distracted driving is a dangerous behavior that can lead to accidents and fatalities. With these simple steps, you can do your part to create safer roads for everyone.
