Lifetime costs of TBI can reach into the millions of dollars

Posted by Leonard Becker | Jan 04, 2018 | 0 Comments

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a devastating injury that can upset the life plan of a California victim. A TBI can result from any number of negligence-based accidents such as car accidents, premises liability incidents and workplace traumas. Not all victims of TBI will recover from their accidents and some may be significantly afflicted for their entire lives.

According to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation a victim of a severe TBI may end up spending up to $2 million to treat and live with their related conditions. A severe TBI may rob a victim of their ability to move on their own, breathe without assistance, eat solid foods, control their coordination and emotions and retain memories.

The life of a TBI victim can be very hard especially if they cannot afford to provide themselves with the care and support they need to survive. For this reason victims of negligence-based accidents who suffer from TBI may need to seek financial compensation for the significant losses they had to incur due to other peoples' bad conduct.

Injuries such as TBI can serve as evidence of damages in personal injury cases. If a victim can plead and prove the elements of a negligence case they may be entitled to their accident-related costs and compensation for their pain and suffering.

It is important to note that not all cases of TBI result from negligence-based accidents and not all TBI victims will be able to pursue their losses through civil litigation. Speaking with a personal injury attorney about the facts of one's own TBI case can be a good way to start an inquiry into the availability of legal options for a TBI victim.

I have been practicing law in California for over 30 years, dedicating my adult life to the pursuit of justice for the victims of negligent acts. I have stood up for those individuals who normally would not have the ability to take on the big corporations and insurance carriers who often ignore or take advantage of the injured and/or oppressed.
